Mueang Tak District is a district in Tak Province , serving as a transportation hub and a connecting point to Mae Sot District, the center of Thai-Myanmar border trade. Mueang Tak was formerly known as "Muang Rahang," and was historically inhabited by the Mon people, as evidenced by Mon art found there. [ citation needed ] The original city was located in Ban Tak District, and was built before Sukhothai became the capital. [ citation needed ] After Sukhothai was established as the capital, Tak became an important western frontier city. During the Rattanakosin era, King Rama II ordered the relocation of Tak city from the right bank of the Ping River to the left bank in Ban Rahang Subdistrict, where it remains to this day.
